Every prolonged silence has a question beneath it.
Not a conbyfrontational question.
Not an accusatory one.
A quiet one.
It asks who you are becoming by staying exactly where you are.
It asks what part of you has been on hold.
It asks how long you can wait without changing shape.
Most people don’t hear this question clearly at first.
They feel it as restlessness.
As irritation that seems disproportionate.
As sadness that doesn’t have a single cause.
But the question is patient.
It waits until you’re ready to notice that the relationship isn’t frozen.
It’s moving.
And so are you.
